Americans for Prosperity Action Endorses North Dakota Legislative Candidates

Bismarck, North Dakota – Americans for Prosperity Action North Dakota (AFP Action-ND) today announced its first round of endorsements of candidates to the North Dakota State Legislature.

AFP Action will leverage a wide range of tactics, including its grassroots outreach and mobilization, a full-time dedicated staff, and trained volunteers to educate and mobilize voters to support these candidates.

“AFP Action is excited and fully prepared to deploy the expansive resources at our disposal in support of these candidates, including our many faithful staff and volunteers to connect and speak with voters,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Michael Fedorchak. “These candidates are focused on some of the most important issues facing North Dakotans: education, deregulation, and tax and budget reform.”

BACKGROUND

Rep. Jason Dockter (House District-07)

Rep. Jason Dockter has a proven record of advocating for North Dakota taxpayers. He’s fought for lower taxes that will help create jobs and allow people to keep more of their hard-earned money and voted to require a two-thirds vote of the legislature to increase taxes. As an advocate of reforms to rein in government regulatory overreach, Rep. Dockter supported deregulating the cottage food industry and scaling back state Blue Laws. In the Senate, Rep. Dockter will champion education freedom policies to provide greater educational opportunities for North Dakota parents and students.

Scott McCarthy (House District-08)

Scott McCarthy’s business experience has prepared him to promote policies in the State House that cut complicated and burdensome government regulations and red tape that stifle economic growth, business development, and job creation. McCarthy is a supporter of badly needed domestic energy production, educational freedom that allows parents to select the education that meets the needs of their children, and free speech on college campuses.

Mike Berg (House District-08)

Mike Berg will bring a commonsense approach to our state finances. Berg believes that the state spending levels are too high and supports a full audit to reform the state budget. By focusing on budget reform and keeping tax levels under control, Berg will work to keep the wellbeing of his constituents at the forefront of spending policy.

Lyn James (House District-39)

Lyn James is committed to building coalitions to reach commonsense solutions to North Dakota’s problems. She believes that government red tape hinders multiple industries, including health care and domestic energy production. Through her support for lower taxes, less spending, and regulatory reforms, Lyn James will work to get government out of the way of expanding opportunities for North Dakotans.

Rep. Dave Nehring (Senate District-08)

Rep. Dave Nehring voted in the State House to protect hardworking taxpayers and increase educational freedom. He supported legislation to require a two-thirds majority of the state legislature to raise taxes and opposed tax increases. In the State Senate, Dave Nehring will continue to support regulatory reforms and education policies that expand learning outside of the classroom and increase educational freedom to give parents more choices when it comes to their children’s education.

Sen. Robert Erbele (Senate District-28)

Sen. Robert Erbele currently serves as a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, where he kept a watchful eye on North Dakota state finances. As a Human Services Committee member, he opposed misguided prescription price controls that cause scarcity and lead to bureaucratic rationing. As he continues his service in the State Senate, Sen. Erbele will continue to be an advocate for lower taxes and responsible state government spending.

Sean Cleary (Senate District-35)

Sean Cleary is a strong advocate for education and regulatory reform, and economic policies that put the taxpayer interests ahead of the special interests. In the Senate, Cleary will champion new education options that allow families to choose the education that best meets their children’s needs. Cleary believes that government policies should empower the individual rather than function as blanket solutions. He wants to avoid excessive spending and does not believe spending should naturally increase whenever taxes are raised.

AFP Action Endorses Jeremy Shaffer for Congress

Arlington, VA—Americans for Prosperity Action today endorsed former Ross Township Commissioner Jeremy Shaffer to represent Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

AFP-Action Pennsylvania Senior Advisor Ashley Klingensmith gave the following statement before a gathering of AFP Action volunteers at Celebrations outside Pittsburgh:

“Jeremy Shaffer is the kind of committed leader that Pennsylvanians deserve to have representing their interests in Congress. As a former township commissioner, he’s demonstrated his commitment to low taxes, responsible spending, and limited government intervention. He’s voted against nuisance taxes that other lawmakers would use to fund special interest projects. As a small business owner, Shaffer understands how well-meaning government regulations can hamstring private businesses and erect barriers that stunt economic opportunity in our communities.

“Western Pennsylvanians have been lucky to have Shaffer active and involved in their communities, but now it’s time for him to take this energy to represent them in Washington. After several years, Allegheny County will finally have principled representation that can help create a policy majority in our nation’s capital.”

AFP Action is mobilizing volunteers and activists in the Keystone State to knock doors and make phone calls urging voters to support Shaffer’s candidacy. This seat was vacated by Rep. Connor Lamb.

Nashville, Tenn. — Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) endorsed Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles, who is running for the U.S. House of Representative from Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District.

Ogles was endorsed because of his track record supporting local, state, and federal policies that promote economic freedom and create opportunities that improve the lives of Tennesseans.

Ogles served as state director of Americans for Prosperity’s Tennessee chapter from 2013 to 2017.

“Andy Ogles is the kind of champion Tennesseans need in Congress – a tireless advocate for economic freedom and stopping government overreach,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Tori Venable. “Inflation is crushing the American dream. Andy understands everyone is paying more and getting less because of Washington’s reckless spending. We can count on Ogles to uphold Tennessee’s values and stop the D.C. spending spree.

“As AFP state director, Andy worked to repeal the Hall tax and stop the gas tax hike,” she said. “As mayor, he supported balanced budgets and prevented the economic lockdowns that destroyed livelihoods for so many Tennesseans. In Congress, Andy will stand up to the big-government bureaucrats who are undermining America’s future.”

AFP-Action Announces Full Backing of Representative Ted Budd’s Senate Bid

Arlington, VA – Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP-Action) on Monday announced its support for Rep. Ted Budd’s (R-NC) Senate bid.

The three-term congressman earned AFP-Action’s endorsement for his consistent leadership and voting record on controlling government spending, curbing harmful regulations, and supporting health care policies that increase access and lower costs.

AFP-Action North Carolina Senior Advisor Director Chris McCoy gave a glowing endorsement following the announcement:

“Rep. Budd has been a consistent champion on the issues that matter most to North Carolinians: reducing inflation by addressing government spending, expanding economic opportunities by reducing and reforming unnecessary regulations, and implementing health care reforms that give every American access to a personal health care option.

“He has been a reliable voice for North Carolinians in the House of Representatives, and we look forward to mobilizing our grassroots to expand his leadership to the U.S. Senate. Rep. Budd has consistently and creatively used his position to advance reforms. From introducing a bill to solidify COVID telehealth expansions to voting down the wasteful government spending bills that come his way, he has shown that he works to promote policies that are in the best interest of the American people.”

Over the next several months, AFP Action will mobilize its best-in-the-nation network of grassroots volunteers to knock doors, place calls, and hold community events across the Tarheel State to support Budd’s U.S. Senate candidacy.

The endorsement comes off last Tuesday’s primary, which Budd won with a commanding 58 percent of the vote.

Background

Since taking office in 2016, Rep. Budd has worked to advance a smaller, more accountable federal government on behalf of the people of North Carolina. Budd has coupled his position on the Financial Services Committee with his past experience in business to highlight how burdensome regulations hobble the economy and strangle markets. A reliable voice for fiscal responsibility, Rep. Budd routinely votes against irresponsible spending packages, especially when those packages include misguided environmental and energy policies like carbon taxes. AFP Action looks forward to having his voice in the U.S. Senate.

Americans for Prosperity Action Endorses U.S. Senator Ron Johnson

MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) today endorsed Ron Johnson for re-election to the U.S. Senate. Sen. Johnson’s strong track record on fiscal responsibility and his opposition to regulatory overreach earned this endorsement. His leadership on these and other issues that improve people’s lives set him apart as a leader who is willing to champion the interests of Wisconsin voters in Congress.

“Wisconsin voters are seeing their paychecks and savings eaten away by out-of-control inflation fueled in part by out-of-control government spending,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Eric Bott. “Sen. Johnson has been a strong advocate for fiscal restraint and responsibility, supporting economic policies that expand jobs and opportunities to create an economy that increases the well-being of all.

“His leadership is needed now, more than ever, to restrain a government that takes too much of our hard-earned money to fund wasteful, unnecessary, and inappropriate spending,” he said.

Background

Senator Johnson has been an advocate for reduced and smarter federal budgets. He understands that out-of-control spending fuels harmful inflation. He was a vital voice in opposition to wasteful COVID-related bailout plans and one of a few lawmakers willing to openly challenge the Republican leadership and advocate for a more fiscally responsible approach. Sen. Johnson voted against the 2021 $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.

During the debate on the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Sen. Johnson sought to improve the legislation by refusing support until it included pass-through provisions providing tax relief for private companies that are the engines of job creation.

Sen. Johnson has also been a champion of legislation that more quickly makes medical treatments and products available to people who have exhausted traditional treatments. He was a leader in the effort to enact Right-to-Try legislation that now provides terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments undergoing clinical trials but are not fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration. He was also a supporter of legislation that would allow the sale of drugs, medical products, and devices that have not been approved by the FDA but have been approved by another country. Johnson consistently supported a personal option to health care, whereby patients and doctors are empowered to make their own health choices rather than government bureaucrats.

Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) announced its support for the re-election of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

With today’s endorsement, AFP Action will leverage the country’s largest and most effective grassroots outreach and mobilization capability to educate and turn out voters to support Gov. DeSantis’ election.

“Gov. DeSantis has been a champion for Floridians through difficult and challenging times, and he has succeeded with his economic freedom-oriented approach,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Skylar Zander. “His support for policies—from reducing spending to expanding school choice—have caught the attention of people across the country who want to live in a state where the government respects and empowers its people.”

“AFP Action volunteers across the state are ready to turn out to support his reelection,” said Zander.

BACKGROUND

Gov. DeSantis earned AFP Action’s endorsement because he has been a champion of Florida taxpayers and people living on fixed incomes who are watching helplessly as their hard-earned paychecks and life savings are ravaged by inflation. The governor has continuously demonstrated concern for taxpayers by vetoing more than $1 billion in projects in 2021 that wouldn’t benefit all Floridians. He also ended recurring projects in the budget that were clear cronyism or irresponsible.

Gov. DeSantis moved $5 billion of Florida’s federal COVID funds to Florida’s reserves, unlike other spendthrift states recovering much slower than Florida. His work in health care, such as eliminating certificate of need, has expanded Florida residents’ access and quality of care.

A leader on expanding education opportunities, Gov. DeSantis supported creating the Florida Empowerment Scholarship program and subsequently expanded it so more students can access the education environment that’s right for them.

Americans for Prosperity Action-Alaska Endorses Nick Begich for U.S. House of Representatives

Begich will lead and take a firm stand on issues important to Alaska

Americans for Prosperity Action Alaska (AFP Action-AK) today endorsed Nick Begich for election to Alaska’s at-large seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The field for Alaska’s lone congressional seat now boasts 48 names, but long before fighting for Alaska looked easy, Nick Begich had the courage to stand up and call out Washington D.C. for their failed policies,” said AFP Action-AK Senior Advisor Bernadette Wilson. “Nick understands that even when it’s not popular, or when it looks too difficult, we must fight the damaging effects of an irresponsible Congress. This courage and conviction will guide Nick as a champion for economic growth and opportunity.”

AFP Action-AK will leverage its grassroots activists to educate voters and encourage support for Begich ahead of the special and general elections.

AFP Action is a 527 political action committee focused on electing candidates who will drive policy change and facilitate the building of broad policy coalitions that remove barriers to opportunity and help people improve their lives.

“In some areas of Alaska fuel is nearly $6 a gallon,” said Wilson. “Spring barges coming into Alaska will see a 50 percent increase in cost compared to June of last year. Nationally, Americans will spend $5,200 just to cover the same day-to-day expenses as last year.

“As a resource-rich state, Alaska can lead the country with solutions that will fuel innovation and provide financial security,” she said. “There is no doubt Nick Begich has what it will take to lead the way and be a champion for Alaska.”

Background

Nick Begich knows that massive deficits and a soaring debt threaten the well-being of future generations and our nation’s security by limiting our ability to prepare for current and emerging threats. He understands that the role of federal lawmakers is to establish priorities and make the tough decisions to cut waste and unnecessary spending. And he will work to ensure our nation responsibly develops its energy resources to provide abundant and affordable energy.
