Americans for Prosperity Action Endorses U.S. Senator Ron Johnson

MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) today endorsed Ron Johnson for re-election to the U.S. Senate. Sen. Johnson’s strong track record on fiscal responsibility and his opposition to regulatory overreach earned this endorsement. His leadership on these and other issues that improve people’s lives set him apart as a leader who is willing to champion the interests of Wisconsin voters in Congress.

“Wisconsin voters are seeing their paychecks and savings eaten away by out-of-control inflation fueled in part by out-of-control government spending,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Eric Bott. “Sen. Johnson has been a strong advocate for fiscal restraint and responsibility, supporting economic policies that expand jobs and opportunities to create an economy that increases the well-being of all.

“His leadership is needed now, more than ever, to restrain a government that takes too much of our hard-earned money to fund wasteful, unnecessary, and inappropriate spending,” he said.

Background

Senator Johnson has been an advocate for reduced and smarter federal budgets. He understands that out-of-control spending fuels harmful inflation. He was a vital voice in opposition to wasteful COVID-related bailout plans and one of a few lawmakers willing to openly challenge the Republican leadership and advocate for a more fiscally responsible approach. Sen. Johnson voted against the 2021 $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.

During the debate on the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Sen. Johnson sought to improve the legislation by refusing support until it included pass-through provisions providing tax relief for private companies that are the engines of job creation.

Sen. Johnson has also been a champion of legislation that more quickly makes medical treatments and products available to people who have exhausted traditional treatments. He was a leader in the effort to enact Right-to-Try legislation that now provides terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments undergoing clinical trials but are not fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration. He was also a supporter of legislation that would allow the sale of drugs, medical products, and devices that have not been approved by the FDA but have been approved by another country. Johnson consistently supported a personal option to health care, whereby patients and doctors are empowered to make their own health choices rather than government bureaucrats.
