Americans for Prosperity Action-Florida Continues Rolling Out State Legislative Endorsements

Endorses Sen. Jim Boyd and Sen. Jennifer Bradley

Americans for Prosperity Action-Florida (AFP Action-FL) continues its support for Florida legislative candidates with endorsements of State Sen. Jim Boyd (SD-20) and State Sen. Jennifer Bradley (SD-06).

Sen. Boyd and Bradley earned AFP Action’s endorsements based on their support for responsible government regulations and reform efforts that break down regulatory barriers that deny opportunities and limit individual success.

“Sen. Boyd and Bradley understand that government regulations, no matter how well-intentioned, can erect roadblocks to businesses, workers, and families seeking opportunities and pursuing their dreams,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Skylar Zander. “Re-elected to the State Senate, they will continue to seek reform opportunities to clear the roadblocks and allow people greater freedom to improve their lives and wellbeing.”

BACKGROUND

State Sen. Jim Boyd (SD-20)

Sen. Jim Boyd supports legislation that will get the government out of the way of parents by empowering them to choose education solutions that are best for their children, including charter schools. He also supported telehealth reform to make it easier for Floridians to see a doctor and receive care during a crisis such as COVID or for people who are less mobile and have difficulty leaving their homes for medical care. Sen. Boyd also voted for legislation to save the state pension program by phasing out the old system and allowing new state employees to receive 401(k)-style benefits. In 2020, the state pension system had $36 billion in unfunded liabilities.

State Sen. Jennifer Bradley (SD-06)

Sen. Jennifer Bradley championed legislation that allows restaurants and other food service businesses to sell and deliver alcoholic beverages. This legislation was important to businesses that were struggling to survive during the pandemic and recovery. Upon signing the legislation, Gov. DeSantis thanked Sen. Bradley for her leadership and for being “ready and willing to create common-sense reforms that got government out of the way and increased opportunity for Florida businesses.” Sen. Bradley is also the sponsor of legislation to simplify the regulatory process around mixed-use development and affordable housing.

AFP Action Endorses Dr. Oz for U.S. Senate

Harrisburg, PennsylvaniaAmericans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) today endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz in his race to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate.

AFP-Action Senior Advisor Ashley Klingensmith gave the following remarks following the announcement.

“Dr. Oz knows what’s ailing Pennsylvania: too much government overreach. As both a physician and a businessman, he’s seen firsthand how government interference makes it increasingly difficult for doctors, patients, business owners, and workers to make a living, access health care, and pursue the American Dream.

“Pennsylvanians are struggling right now. Gas is over $5 a gallon and families can expect to spend an extra $400 or more a month just to maintain their standard of living. Pennsylvania needs a voice in the U.S. Senate calling for fewer top-down mandates and more bottom-up solutions—whether that comes from unleashing Pennsylvania’s energy sector or getting government out of the way of business. Senator Oz will be just what the doctor ordered.”

AFP Action will leverage a wide range of tactics, including the country’s largest grassroots outreach and mobilization, a full-time dedicated staff, and trained volunteers to educate and mobilize voters to support Dr. Oz’s campaign.

AFP Action Illinois Endorses Richard Irvin for Governor

Springfield, Illinois – Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) has endorsed Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin in his bid to become Illinois’ next governor.

AFP Action endorsed Irvin because of his exemplary record as mayor of Aurora, Illinois’ second-largest city. His opposition to bloated government spending and commitment to cutting taxes is critical after more than three years under current governor, J.B. Pritzker. Mayor Irvin is the only candidate with the executive experience necessary to save Illinois from the dangerous path that Gov. Pritzker charted.

“Illinoisans who are already getting hammered by the inflationary policies coming out of Washington have the attacks on their checkbooks compounded by a governor who just loves to raise taxes and fees,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Jason Heffley. “We need a governor like Richard Irvin who has the experience and courage to pass balanced budgets while cutting taxes.”

Background

During his time in office, Mayor Irvin worked to decrease city government spending, voted regularly against increased regulations on small businesses, and has been supportive of parental choice in education issues. By passing genuinely balanced budgets and cutting property taxes, Mayor Irvin proved his ability to mitigate the current spending crusade. He understands the dire state in which Illinois finds itself and is highly qualified to improve the economy and standard of living by getting government spending under control and releasing small businesses from unnecessary regulations.

AFP Action is prepared to mobilize its expansive network of trained staff and dedicated volunteers to campaign for Mayor Irvin. This is a significant endorsement, as he is only the fifth gubernatorial candidate to be endorsed by AFP Action this year.
