Americans for Prosperity Action Announces Plans for Historic Engagement in 2020

Announces Early Support for U.S. House of Representatives Policy Champions

Arlington, VA – Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) today announced plans for historic political engagement at the federal and state levels in 2020, evaluating two to three times as many races as 2018. As part of this announcement, AFP Action released a new wave of endorsements for four members of the U.S. House of Representatives, each identified as a policy champion thanks to their legislative leadership in breaking barriers to opportunity and improving the lives of all Americans.  Endorsed lawmakers include: Rep. Ted Budd (NC-13), Rep. Steve Chabot (OH-01), Rep. Scott Perry (PA-10), and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05). AFP Action will spread the positive messages of these candidates and their accomplishments through a wide range of tactics encouraging voters to support them at the ballot box.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Nathan Nascimento issued the following statement:

“Our political engagement serves as a means to achieve meaningful public policy that will help improve lives. Today, we are excited to announce support for four principled policy champions that are leading on critical issues, even when politically difficult. This is just the beginning for our team, as we’re preparing to engage in 2020 political races at a higher degree than ever before.”

In 2019, AFP Action engaged in more races than any other off-cycle year in history. With respect to endorsements in 2020, AFP Action Senior Advisor Emily Seidel told CNN, “We’re not looking for Democrats. We’re not looking for Republicans. We’re looking for people who are committed to driving on these policies that we believe will help improve the lives of all Americans.”

Rep. Ted Budd (NC-13)

Congressman Ted Budd is an advocate for more affordable, better quality health care, a lower tax burden that allows families to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks, and both labor and regulatory reform efforts that spur economic growth, promote small businesses, and make life more affordable.

Rep. Steve Chabot (OH-01)

Congressman Steve Chabot is a principled leader in Washington that works hard to find positive policy solutions to our nation’s biggest problems. He led on efforts to allow Ohio’s families to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks, fought against protectionist polices that stifled free trade and negatively impacted Ohio’s economy, and fought for expanded access to quality, affordable care for all Ohioans.

Rep. Scott Perry (PA-10)

Congressman Scott Perry boasts a strong record of supporting policies that help Pennsylvanians keep more of their hard-earned paychecks and regulatory reform efforts that cut red tape to allow small businesses to thrive. He has also advocated for expanded access to quality, affordable care for all Pennsylvanians and rejected Washington’s one-size-fits-all approach to health care.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05)

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers leads on important policy solutions that make life easier for all Americans.  As a member of leadership, Rep. McMorris Rodgers helped pass historic tax reform that allowed hard-working Americans across the country to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks, was an early supporter of reducing the regulatory burden on small businesses, and innovative health care solutions to improve quality and affordability of care.

AFP Action to Church: Prevailing Wage and Davis-Bacon Are Bad for Wisconsin

MADISON, WI—Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) today issued a statement regarding candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District Jason Church to reconsider his recent policy position reversal regarding the Davis-Bacon Act and other job-killing labor mandates. AFP Action-endorsed candidate Sen. Tom Tiffany because of his support for policies that spur economic growth, promote small businesses, and make life more affordable for Wisconsin families.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Eric Bott issued the following statement:

“The antiquated Davis-Bacon Act and similar crony policies do little more than promote government favoritism and encourage the construction of lower quality infrastructure projects at higher costs. While his support for these policies is still fresh, Jason Church should acknowledge that they make life harder for Wisconsin’s small businesses and families and reconsider his position immediately. A marketplace free of government favoritism is fairer, increases competition, lowers prices, and a sets Wisconsin’s economy on a more positive direction.”

Bott added:

“AFP Action enthusiastically supports Sen. Tom Tiffany in his bid for Congress as he continues to advocate for policies that alleviate the regulatory and tax burdens on families and small businesses.”

Background:

In an award winning 2015 study, the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance estimated that the repeal of Wisconsin’s state prevailing wage law on vertical construction alone save taxpayers as much as $299 million per year.

In October, AFP Action issued a statement and released a memo announcing support for Sen. Tom Tiffany due to his track record of principled leadership on key issues that enable Wisconsinites to achieve their American Dream.
