JACKSON, MS—Americans for Prosperity Action tonight congratulates Mississippi’s newly elected Governor, Tate Reeves. AFP Action applauds its grassroots activists for their tireless efforts that helped spread the positive message of Governor-Elect Reeves’ candidacy. Reeves earned AFP Action’s endorsement due to his principled support for fiscally responsible policies that allow Mississippians to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks, expand educational freedom, and provide second chances for those looking to rebuild their lives.

AFP Action identified several areas where Lt. Governor Reeves has made a positive impact in the lives of everyday Mississippians:

• Economic Opportunity: He has been integral to ensuring Jackson remains fiscally responsible. He’s been a champion for all Mississippians by supporting policies that empower individuals and create more opportunity for all. Those policies include: The Taxpayer Pay Raise Act, eliminating the corporate franchise tax, and opposing gas tax increases.
• Educational Freedom:  He has been a staunch advocate for increasing educational opportunities for all Mississippi students. By pushing to expand opportunity and helping increase funding for Special Needs Education Scholarship Accounts (ESA), Reeves has worked to ensure more children have the opportunity to choose an education that best fits their unique needs.
• Criminal Justice Reform:  He believes in stemming the state’s over-incarceration problem and helping those who have served their time get a second chance. Reeves has been a consistent supporter of criminal justice reform, because he knows these principles reduce crime and recidivism, help individuals beat poverty and addiction, and make our communities safer – all while saving tax dollars.

Americans for Prosperity Action is supporting Matt Bevin in his re-election bid for Governor.  We do not take our political support lightly.  As stated in our May announcement, we support Governor Bevin because his agenda is improving the lives of Kentuckians and giving them the opportunity to reach their full potential.  Gov. Bevin has been a consistent voice for restoring fiscal responsibility to the state capitol and empowering everyone to find fulfilling work.  He has been a strong voice for educational opportunities for all of Kentucky’s students.  And he believes in opening doors and providing opportunities to those who have served their time in the criminal justice system and are ready to rejoin society.  Importantly, Gov. Bevin has brought people together to address these issues, recognizing the value of taking a reasonable approach to solving some of the toughest issues of our time.

We encourage the Governor’s campaign to hold itself to the same high standards that have come to distinguish his first term. Rather than releasing an ad with images that stoke fear and will only further divide people, Governor Bevin has the opportunity to raise the bar in the debate around immigration policy. While there are legitimate areas of disagreement on the issue of immigration, a majority of the public want a civil discussion that seeks a solution to both increase safety at our borders and be more welcoming of immigrants who come here to contribute. Today’s leaders should take the same approach to immigration that Gov. Bevin has taken to so many other issues – productive discussion and thoughtful leadership. We encourage the Governor to stick to his commitment to do that on this issue.

“Mississippians want a candidate that has successfully gone to bat for Mississippi families—and Tate Reeves has done just that as Lt.
