AFP Action Backs Tom Barrett for U.S. Congress

Lansing, Michigan—Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) today threw its support behind former Michigan State Senator Tom Barrett’s bid to represent Michigan’s 7th Congressional District.

Barrett is one of five House candidates the Super PAC endorsed this week. The other candidates include: Ohio State Representative Craig Reidel (OH-09), Pennsylvania State Representative Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore (WV-02), and Pennsylvania State Representative Rob Mercuri (PA-17).

The endorsements come as AFP Action ramps up to engage in more races—including primaries—than ever before in the lead-up to the 2024 general election.

After the announcement, Annie Patnaude, senior advisor to AFP Action in Michigan, gave the following statement:

“Now, more than ever Michiganders need voices like Tom’s standing up for them in Washington. Michiganders know that it’s wasteful spending and ever-growing agency regulations that have made life unaffordable—and it starts in Washington.

“Barrett will be a key reinforcement for other Michigan champions, like Rep. John James, who we also endorsed earlier this year.”

AFP-Action Director Nathan Nascimento also gave the following statement:

“Our grassroots activists have an impressive track record of helping elect principled champions to office. What we’ve learned over decades of activism is that when we get involved early, our candidates are more likely to succeed in the general election.

“Barrett’s race to flip the seat previously held by Rep. Elissa Slotkin is a critical race for building and maintaining a policy majority in Congress and our grassroots are ready to get involved and make a difference in this race.”

To date this year, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) has reached out to over 4.3 million potential Republican primary voters in key battleground states to understand what issues matter most to them and what they are looking for in candidates for state and federal office next year. AFP Action will acquire this data to bring new voters into the primary process.
