Americans for Prosperity Action Endorses North Dakota Legislative Candidates

Bismarck, North Dakota – Americans for Prosperity Action North Dakota (AFP Action-ND) today announced its first round of endorsements of candidates to the North Dakota State Legislature.

AFP Action will leverage a wide range of tactics, including its grassroots outreach and mobilization, a full-time dedicated staff, and trained volunteers to educate and mobilize voters to support these candidates.

“AFP Action is excited and fully prepared to deploy the expansive resources at our disposal in support of these candidates, including our many faithful staff and volunteers to connect and speak with voters,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Michael Fedorchak. “These candidates are focused on some of the most important issues facing North Dakotans: education, deregulation, and tax and budget reform.”

BACKGROUND

Rep. Jason Dockter (House District-07)

Rep. Jason Dockter has a proven record of advocating for North Dakota taxpayers. He’s fought for lower taxes that will help create jobs and allow people to keep more of their hard-earned money and voted to require a two-thirds vote of the legislature to increase taxes. As an advocate of reforms to rein in government regulatory overreach, Rep. Dockter supported deregulating the cottage food industry and scaling back state Blue Laws. In the Senate, Rep. Dockter will champion education freedom policies to provide greater educational opportunities for North Dakota parents and students.

Scott McCarthy (House District-08)

Scott McCarthy’s business experience has prepared him to promote policies in the State House that cut complicated and burdensome government regulations and red tape that stifle economic growth, business development, and job creation. McCarthy is a supporter of badly needed domestic energy production, educational freedom that allows parents to select the education that meets the needs of their children, and free speech on college campuses.

Mike Berg (House District-08)

Mike Berg will bring a commonsense approach to our state finances. Berg believes that the state spending levels are too high and supports a full audit to reform the state budget. By focusing on budget reform and keeping tax levels under control, Berg will work to keep the wellbeing of his constituents at the forefront of spending policy.

Lyn James (House District-39)

Lyn James is committed to building coalitions to reach commonsense solutions to North Dakota’s problems. She believes that government red tape hinders multiple industries, including health care and domestic energy production. Through her support for lower taxes, less spending, and regulatory reforms, Lyn James will work to get government out of the way of expanding opportunities for North Dakotans.

Rep. Dave Nehring (Senate District-08)

Rep. Dave Nehring voted in the State House to protect hardworking taxpayers and increase educational freedom. He supported legislation to require a two-thirds majority of the state legislature to raise taxes and opposed tax increases. In the State Senate, Dave Nehring will continue to support regulatory reforms and education policies that expand learning outside of the classroom and increase educational freedom to give parents more choices when it comes to their children’s education.

Sen. Robert Erbele (Senate District-28)

Sen. Robert Erbele currently serves as a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, where he kept a watchful eye on North Dakota state finances. As a Human Services Committee member, he opposed misguided prescription price controls that cause scarcity and lead to bureaucratic rationing. As he continues his service in the State Senate, Sen. Erbele will continue to be an advocate for lower taxes and responsible state government spending.

Sean Cleary (Senate District-35)

Sean Cleary is a strong advocate for education and regulatory reform, and economic policies that put the taxpayer interests ahead of the special interests. In the Senate, Cleary will champion new education options that allow families to choose the education that best meets their children’s needs. Cleary believes that government policies should empower the individual rather than function as blanket solutions. He wants to avoid excessive spending and does not believe spending should naturally increase whenever taxes are raised.

AFP Action Endorses Jeremy Shaffer for Congress

Arlington, VA—Americans for Prosperity Action today endorsed former Ross Township Commissioner Jeremy Shaffer to represent Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

AFP-Action Pennsylvania Senior Advisor Ashley Klingensmith gave the following statement before a gathering of AFP Action volunteers at Celebrations outside Pittsburgh:

“Jeremy Shaffer is the kind of committed leader that Pennsylvanians deserve to have representing their interests in Congress. As a former township commissioner, he’s demonstrated his commitment to low taxes, responsible spending, and limited government intervention. He’s voted against nuisance taxes that other lawmakers would use to fund special interest projects. As a small business owner, Shaffer understands how well-meaning government regulations can hamstring private businesses and erect barriers that stunt economic opportunity in our communities.

“Western Pennsylvanians have been lucky to have Shaffer active and involved in their communities, but now it’s time for him to take this energy to represent them in Washington. After several years, Allegheny County will finally have principled representation that can help create a policy majority in our nation’s capital.”

AFP Action is mobilizing volunteers and activists in the Keystone State to knock doors and make phone calls urging voters to support Shaffer’s candidacy. This seat was vacated by Rep. Connor Lamb.

Andy understands everyone is paying more and getting less because of Washington’s reckless spending. We can count on Ogles to uphold Tennessee’s values and stop the D.C. spending spree.

“As AFP state director, Andy worked to repeal the Hall tax and stop the gas tax hike,” she said. “As mayor, he supported balanced budgets and prevented the economic lockdowns that destroyed livelihoods for so many Tennesseans. In Congress, Andy will stand up to the big-government bureaucrats who are undermining America’s future.”
