Rogers Bests Slotkin in Grand Rapids Debate

Grand Rapids, Michigan – After former Congressman Mike Rogers defeated Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin in the first Michigan Senate Debate, AFP Action Senior Advisor Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Tonight, Mike Rogers showed Michigan voters that they have the opportunity to vote for a real leader to represent them in the U.S. Senate. For two decades, Debbie Stabenow left the real concerns of Michiganders behind as she rubber-stamped a progressive agenda that hurt their families, their businesses, and their paychecks.

“Elissa Slotkin will be more of the same. She showed us that with her voting record. She’s wearing a mask of moderation to win this election, but we know the kinds of policies that she supports by rubber-stamping 100% of the Biden-Harris agenda.

“Mike Rogers has the right attitude and solutions to stand up for Michigan in the Senate, and we need that more than ever.”

Slotkin Knows Border Security is a Problem, But Won’t Buck Party to Protect Michiganders

Grand Rapids, Michigan– While Elissa Slotkin attempts to defend the Biden-Harris administration’s failed border policies , AFP Action is highlighting the Congresswoman’s own failures to secure the border and protect Michiganders.

  • Elissa Slotkin voted against H.R. 2 the “Secure the Border” Act of 2023.
  • As a freshman Congresswoman, Slotkin voted to terminate an emergency declaration that would have enabled the construction of a border wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
  • She dismissed the effort to strengthen the nation’s border security as merely “political action on the part of the President.”

AFP Action Senior Advisor Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Now that it’s politically inconvenient, Congresswoman Slotkin is trying to flip the script on her previous stances on immigration. It’s insulting to the Michiganders who have fallen victim to fentanyl while she pays mere lip service to the idea of border security during an election year.

“Believe how she votes, not what she says. Contrast her record with that of former Congressman Mike Rogers. Rogers has always advocated for border security and has the track record to prove it. That’s why he needs to be Michigan’s next Senator.”

Elissa Slotkin is a Rubber Stamp for the Biden-Harris Agenda

Grand Rapids, Michigan – While Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin claims she’ll stand up for Michigan families in the U.S. Senate, the truth is that he’s been a rubber-stamp for the Biden-Harris agenda. During her short time in office, she’s shown that she puts party first.

In the debate, Slotkin desperately tried to tell voters that, if elected, she would put them first, but in reality, she votes with the Biden-Harris Administration 100% of the time.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Far from getting fresh new leadership, a vote for Slotkin is a vote for more of the same broken policies of the past four years. Once she crosses into the Beltway, Slotkin ignores the needs of hard-working Michiganders and goes to work advancing her party’s radical progressive agenda—even if that means ending the filibuster, raising taxes, or ending the Right to Work by supporting the PRO Act.”

FACT CHECK: Slotkin Supports EV Mandates

Grand Rapids, Michigan – As the debate between Elissa Slotkin and Mike Rogers is underway, Slotkin has tried to position herself as a moderate on energy and environmental issues that will have an outsized impact on Michigan’s economy.

However, her voting record shows that she puts progressive politics over the best interests of Michigan’s families and businesses.

Despite spelling potential disaster to Michigan’s economy, Elissa Slotkin voted just last month to uphold the Biden-Harris Administration’s electric vehicle mandate. This follows a trend of Slotkin backing feckless energy initiatives that would increase energy costs and destabilize the grid.

She’s supported a ban on liquid natural gas exports, has endorsed shutting down the Line 5 pipeline in Michigan, and favors a radical environmental agenda that’s at odds with growing Michigan’s economy and keeping costs down for Michiganders.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Elissa Slotkin’s progressive agenda threatens the stability of Michigan’s energy grid and its economy. The electric vehicle mandate cuts at the heart of Michigan’s auto manufacturing sector. Given the chance to roll back this overreaching regulation just last month, Slotkin voted to keep it—even though she’s falsely advertising to voters that she supports consumer choice.

“But it’s also on-brand. Slotkin has supported strangling the export of liquid natural gas, wants to close a critical pipeline in Michigan, and doesn’t understand that her aggressive anti-energy agenda isn’t workable.

“With our weather and climate AND our economy, there’s really only one champion on the ballot: Mike Rogers. He supports an all-of-the-above approach to domestic energy production, which is exactly what we need if we intend to thrive.”

Slotkin Tries to Have it Both Ways on Fiscal Policy, Inflation

Grand Rapids, Michigan – In tonight’s debate, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin attempted to salvage her economic record after voting for legislation that triggered the cost-of-living crisis that’s squeezing hard-working Michiganders and ballooned the national debt.

Despite previous claims that she’s a “fiscal conservative” and believes in “treating our federal budget like we treat our home budget” Slotkin voted for the inflationary “Inflation Reduction Act” (IRA). Contrary to its name, the IRA kicked inflation into overdrive. The IRA  resulted in U.S. gas prices increasing by nearly 62%, natural gas prices spiking by more than 40 percent, and included a $250-billion-dollar Department of Energy Loan Guarantee Program to fund liberal pet projects. Studies show that far from reducing inflation, the IRA and other signature pieces of the Biden-Harris economic agenda overheated the economy and led to the crushing cost increase in household goods.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Elissa Slotkin voted for inflation when she voted for the Inflation Reduction Act and other planks of the Biden-Harris economic agenda. This election is an opportunity for Michiganders to get fresh and bold representation in the U.S. Senate, but unfortunately, Slotkin buys into the same misplaced, big-government philosophy that powered ‘Bidenomics’ and has pushed the nation right to the edge of the fiscal cliff.

“We’re at a crossroads, and it’s getting harder and harder to turn back. But Mike Rogers understands how federal fiscal policy affects kitchen table issues. He supports a balanced budget amendment and—unlike Slotkin—knows that inflation is a government-created problem caused by wasteful government spending.”
