Grand Rapids, Michigan—Last night, Mike Rogers showed Michiganders that he has what it takes to be Michigan’s next senator.
AFP Action Senior Advisory Tim Golding issued the following statement about why Mike Rogers won the first debate against Elissa Slotkin.
“Here are five key takeaways for Michigan voters:
- Slotkin talked bipartisanship but is a fierce liberal partisan once she crosses the DC Beltway, voting 100% with the Biden-Harris agenda in Congress. Slotkin ignores the needs of hard-working Michiganders and goes to work advancing her party’s radical progressive agenda—even if that means ending the filibuster, raising taxes, or ending the Right to Work by supporting the PRO Act.
- Despite previous claims that she’s a “fiscal conservative” and believes in “treating our federal budget like we treat our home budget” Slotkin voted for the “Inflation Reduction Act” and all its reckless spending that led to 40-year high inflation.
- Slotkin talked tough about the border but she voted against H.R. 2 the “Secure the Border” Act of 2023. As a freshman Congresswoman, Slotkin voted to terminate an emergency declaration that would have enabled the construction of a border wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. She dismissed the effort to strengthen the nation’s border security as merely “political action on the part of the President.”
- Slotkin tried to position herself as a moderate on energy and environmental issues but her voting record shows that she puts progressive politics over the best interests of Michigan’s families and businesses. Despite spelling potential disaster to Michigan’s economy, Slotkin voted just last month to uphold the Biden-Harris Administration’s electric vehicle mandate. This follows a trend of Slotkin backing feckless energy initiatives that would increase energy costs and destabilize Michigan’s energy grid.
- Mike Rogers won that debate with good ideas and solid policy. Join AFPA and help us send him to the Senate. Rogers understands how federal policies affect kitchen table issues. Michigan needs him in the Senate to restore fiscal sanity. If you’re not doing better today than you were four years ago, then you need to vote for Rogers for US Senate. He’s going to buck the status quo and hold the line for Michigan.”
