Slotkin Tries to Have it Both Ways on Fiscal Policy, Inflation

Grand Rapids, Michigan – In tonight’s debate, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin attempted to salvage her economic record after voting for legislation that triggered the cost-of-living crisis that’s squeezing hard-working Michiganders and ballooned the national debt.

Despite previous claims that she’s a “fiscal conservative” and believes in “treating our federal budget like we treat our home budget” Slotkin voted for the inflationary “Inflation Reduction Act” (IRA). Contrary to its name, the IRA kicked inflation into overdrive. The IRA  resulted in U.S. gas prices increasing by nearly 62%, natural gas prices spiking by more than 40 percent, and included a $250-billion-dollar Department of Energy Loan Guarantee Program to fund liberal pet projects. Studies show that far from reducing inflation, the IRA and other signature pieces of the Biden-Harris economic agenda overheated the economy and led to the crushing cost increase in household goods.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Elissa Slotkin voted for inflation when she voted for the Inflation Reduction Act and other planks of the Biden-Harris economic agenda. This election is an opportunity for Michiganders to get fresh and bold representation in the U.S. Senate, but unfortunately, Slotkin buys into the same misplaced, big-government philosophy that powered ‘Bidenomics’ and has pushed the nation right to the edge of the fiscal cliff.

“We’re at a crossroads, and it’s getting harder and harder to turn back. But Mike Rogers understands how federal fiscal policy affects kitchen table issues. He supports a balanced budget amendment and—unlike Slotkin—knows that inflation is a government-created problem caused by wasteful government spending.”

FIVE KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM PA SENATE DEBATE:

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania—Last night, Dave McCormick showed Pennsylvanians that he should be the Keystone State’s next senator.

AFP Action Senior Advisory Emily Greene issued the following statement after Dave McCormick won his first debate against incumbent Senator Bob Casey Jr.

“Here are five key takeaways for Pennsylvania voters:

  1. Polling shows that Americans agree that now is not the time to raise taxes. Dave McCormick has promised to renew the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Bob Casey Jr. voted against it.
  2. Dave McCormick is a new leader with a fresh perspective and appreciation for Pennsylvania voters. Bob Casey has been in office for nearly 20 years and rubber-stamped the Biden-Harris economic agenda; he votes with them 98% of the time.
  3. Dave McCormick is a job creator and understands the policies that help grow the economy and expand economic opportunity. Bob Casey voted for inflation and then blamed job creators for increased consumer prices because he won’t own his own record.
  4. Dave McCormick is serious about border security. Bob Casey Jr. voted against securing the border even though over 18,000 Pennsylvanians have fallen victim to the fentanyl crisis that’s perpetuated by the open border policies supported by Casey and the Biden-Harris Administration.
  5. Pennsylvania’s energy sector is ready and willing to power the nation. Only one candidate has credibility when it comes to embracing an all-of-the-above approach, and that’s Dave McCormick. On the other hand, Bob Casey has voted to increase red tape on energy production and won’t be the energy champion that Pennsylvania needs.”

McCormick Bests Casey in Harrisburg Debate

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – After the debate between Bob Casey Jr. and Dave McCormick, AFP Action Senior Advisor Emily Greene released the following statement:

“Tonight, Dave McCormick showed Pennsylvanians his vision to reignite the American Dream. He outlined real policy solutions and offered the Keystone State a chance to turn the page on nearly 20 years of Bob Casey’s failed leadership in the U.S. Senate.

“Bob Casey has had nearly 20 years in the Senate. Why do we think he’s going to make things better THIS time?

“He understands the problems that Pennsylvanians face and—more importantly—champions the policies that will solve those problems. From expanding economic opportunity, to restoring fiscal responsibility, unleashing American energy, to securing the border, Dave has what it takes to properly represent Pennsylvania.

“That’s why AFP Action has knocked over 700,000 doors across the commonwealth—because we believe he is the candidate who will go to Washington and help the country correct course.”

In Energy Rich Pennsylvania, Casey is Weak on American Power

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, – As the debate between Dave McCormick and Bob Casey Jr. is underway, Bob Casey fails to be a champion for Pennsylvania’s energy sector.

Despite Kamala Harris’s very clear history of advocating for a ban on fracking, Bob Casey refuses to speak out or urge Harris to make her support for U.S. energy abundance clear.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Emily Greene released the following statement:

“Bob Casey pays lip service to Pennsylvania’s energy potential every six years, but we know that he isn’t a real champion for our energy sector. He supported the EPA’s EV mandate, supported increased CAFE standards, opposed the Keystone Pipeline, and is noticeably quiet on Kamala Harris’s historic opposition to fracking.

“Dave McCormick is committed to unleashing energy abundance and has promised to embrace an all-of-the-above approach to domestic energy production. It’s time for Pennsylvania to be an energy-exporting state and we can do that by replacing Bob Casey in the U.S. Senate.”
