AFP Action: Will Lawrence Can’t Outrun His Socialist Record

LANSING, MI – Ahead of Will Lawrence’s slate of town halls this week, Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) is calling on voters in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District to judge him by what he’s said for 15 years, not what he’s said in the last 15 weeks.

Lawrence paid dues to the Democratic Socialists of America until just weeks before his primary. His platform calls for government-run Medicare for All and higher taxes. His own posts call for the “forced nationalization” of energy producers and a “world without police and prisons.” Now that Michigan voters are concerned, he says those words were “hypothetical.”

Tom Barrett has given this district results it can count on. He delivered an overall $3,100 tax cut and is focused on lowering costs for farmers, workers, and small businesses.

AFP Action Senior Advisor for Michigan Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Will Lawrence didn’t drift into socialism by accident. He organized for it, paid dues to the DSA, and posted in support of it for years. Dropping his DSA card right before the primary is a campaign tactic, not a change of heart.

“Many Michigan families are stretching every dollar right now. They need a congressman who’ll keep more money in their pockets, not one who’s spent his career trying to hand Washington the keys. Tom Barrett has earned their trust and another term.”
