AFP Action Endorses Legislative Candidates Ahead of 2026 Elections

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Today, Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) announced support for four candidates running for election to the Illinois General Assembly.

The following candidates garnered AFP Action’s support for their leadership, fiscal responsibility and commitment to increasing opportunity for all Illinoisans: State Rep. Norine Hammond (HD-94), State Rep. Charlie Meier (HD-109), Jessica Breugelmans (SD-33), and State Rep. Paul Jacobs (SD-59).

AFP Action, as part of the largest grassroots organization in the country, plans to leverage the full weight of its voter contact capabilities, direct-mail and digital advertisements to support these candidates.

AFP Action Senior Advisor Jason Heffley issued the following statement:

“Illinois remains one of the least affordable states in the nation and leads the country in property taxes. We need lawmakers who will fight to bring down costs for hardworking families and put common sense and affordability ahead of special interests.

“AFP Action is proud to support these candidates and their work to pursue policies that will increase economic opportunity and lower taxes impeding Illinois families and businesses. Illinois needs fiscal discipline and education freedom more than ever — these candidates are well-equipped and capable of continuing that mission in Springfield.”

Endorsed Candidates:

State Rep. Norine Hammond (HD-94)

As the chief budgeteer for the Illinois House GOP Caucus, Hammond has spearheaded fiscally responsible policies and led House Republicans in pushing back against Democrats’ spending problem. A recipient of AFP-Illinois’ 2025 Prairie State Policy Champion award, Hammond has consistently been a voice for fiscal responsibility and education freedom.

State Rep. Charlie Meier (HD-109)

Rep. Meier has led on key legislative priorities, including opposing tax increases and attacks on homeschooling families. A leader in the fight against Gov. Pritzker’s disastrous energy agenda that would raise utility costs on hardworking Illinoisians, Meier consistently fights for Illinois taxpayers and fiscal responsibility.

Jessica Breugelmans (SD-33)

As a homeschool mom, Jessica Breugelmans deeply understands the importance of educational freedom and parent-led decision-making. Breugelmans will support pension reforms to address Illinois’ pension crisis and rein in rising energy costs in the state.

State Rep. Paul Jacobs (SD-59)

Throughout his time in office, Rep. Jacobs has been a fiscal hawk and champion for school choice in Springfield. Jacobs will continue to empower Illinoisians to have more oversight over property tax levies to help save hardworking families’ pocketbooks. He will oppose policies like gas tax increases and support an all-of-the-above approach to energy.
