RALEIGH, NC – Tonight, Michael Whatley won the Republican primary election for the open U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina. Americans for Prosperity (AFP Action) volunteers knocked doors statewide in support of Whatley in the lead-up to the primary, and AFP Action celebrates Whatley’s nomination. In the coming months, AFP Action will continue to educate and mobilize voters in support of Whatley, who will now face former North Carolina governor Roy Cooper in November’s general election.
With all eyes turned to November, AFP Action tonight is also announcing two new ads as part of a six-figure ad buy that draws a contrast between Whatley’s positions and the failed policies that Cooper has supported over his four decades in public office.

AFP Action senior advisor for North Carolina Tyler Voigt released the following statement:
“We congratulate Michael Whatley on his decisive victory tonight. Michael Whatley deserves to be North Carolina’s next U.S. senator because he will put us first, working to lower costs by eliminating job-killing regulations and making the U.S. energy dominant. In contrast, Roy Cooper will put his progressive agenda first. He vetoed tax cuts that helped North Carolina families. We cannot afford to elect Roy Cooper as our next senator, and AFP Action looks forward to deploying our grassroots network in support of Whatley from now through November.”
